About

I am a Brooklyn-based photographer and psychoanalyst.

After decades away, I returned to film photography in 2019. Sense memories from the 1970s—the shutter click on the Yashica rangefinder my parents bought me at 12; the astonishing experience of watching an image materialize on blank paper in a tray of darkroom chemicals for the first time—powered the decision.

Over time I have developed a strong liking for the square format and for a pair of boxy Rolleiflex TLRs I am seldom without. This site presents photos made with those almost seventy year-old cameras, plus a few others, ranging from 35mm to 8x10”. Having a camera in hand and a darkroom in which to print my work provides an anchoring counterweight to my habitual verbal mode of reckoning with the world: away from the flow of narrative and into the visually-rooted now.
